Accuplacer Testing

ACCUPLACER for Course Placement

The National ACT is the primary assessment instrument used to meet the ACT requirement for admission to the college as well as for course placement in English, mathematics, and selected science courses. The College has adopted ACCUPLACER as the assessment instrument for course placement for students who have not taken the ACT or who wish to challenge their ACT scores for course placement. The ACCUPLACER measures a student’s ability in writing, mathematics, and reading for the purpose of placing them in the appropriate college courses. Should the student score higher on the ACCUPLACER assessment, the student may request that his/her schedule be changed to reflect the recommended course placement.

ACCUPLACER Policies and Procedures

  • Test scores for an ACCUPLACER exam taken at Co-Lin are only applicable at Co-Lin. Co-Lin cannot send ACCUPLACER test scores to another college.
  • The ACCUPLACER consists of two parts: Mathematics and English. Students may opt to take an individual section or both sections in a test session, depending on placement needs.
  • There is a $20 charge for each section of the test and a $40 charge for both sections.
  • Students must pay the fees at the Business Office before taking the test and bring a receipt to the test session.
  • Students must present a valid picture ID before taking the test. Acceptable forms of Identification include a valid driver’s license or permit, current school ID, passport, or Tribal identification card. Photos of identification are not accepted unless it is through the Mississippi Driver’s License app.
  • Students are NOT allowed to bring a calculator to the test.  A pop-up calculator will be available for use during some of the mathematics questions.
  • All General Assessment Center rules apply for ACCUPLACER testing.
